OK here's an oldie. Who remembers the Water Fountains in town and who can tell me where they were? One everyone should remember but there was a much cooler one Lets see who can not only remember it but describe it as well. I know you know where it was Brian Zoldack. We've reminisced about it before.

Jerry Doubleday Lauters and Rec Park both had drinking fountains. But the one I was thinking of, was the one at the Main street and Railroad at the beginning of our FootBridge. It was the coolest looking thing If I remember correctly didn't it have a Horse Head or something like that?

Jerry Doubleday Once when I was a very small child Me and my Dad watched them put Ice Blocks into the ground into a hatch that opened right in front of the one at Memorial park.

Jerry Doubleday Or Maybe I was dreaming. But I'm almost positive that's what I saw had to be in the late 50s. Some of you older residents , Help me out here, Was there a cistern well of sorts that Ive's or someone that sold ice to the town or maybe donated would have delivered ice to? Was the coldest and most special water to a 6 year old. I can remember after watching the man deliver My Dad opened the Hatch and there were Ice Blocks floating in a big tank, ( of sorts) that you could see.

Susan Fitzgerald Bucklin The fountain on Main and Railroad, in front of Currans Pharmacy ended up at an antique shop in Putnam. Don't know where it went from there.

Pete Zizka The water fountain at Railroad St. was set in place in August, 1901. It was cast iron and stood seven feet high. It was originally supposed to go on Railroad Street as part of a widening project for that street. But the project was abandoned and it got set in the place we all remember.

Pete Zizka Speaking of fountains, this wasn't a spectacular one but wasn't there an outside water fountain at Saint Joseph's School - on the Valley Street side? I seem to remember one there.

Jerry Doubleday I guess that back when it was sold it was a different time. People weren't into the nostalgia of the past. At the time I don't think that anyone thought that a mere 40 years later we would be concerned about the very existence of our country and homeland., But it's still to bad that something like that was not saved. The Savings and loan clock on Main street is another example before there were the newer rectangular one there was another quite cool town clock that ended up in Joe Key Ways back yard in Scotland that could be seen from rt 14. It was Round and quite ornate if memory serves me.

Kathy Mongeon Geez it is pushing my memory I can picture it I'm thinking Valley street to. We used to get water there. That guy was stabbed at the rock garden wasn't he the cook of the place. I remember meeting Willie Pep at the rock garden with my dad.

Jerry Doubleday He got creamed by a Bus out on Rt 66 in Columbia I think. Always wore a headband or a dew rag use ta buy us our booze. He use ta sleep in the Rail Roads buildings and under the steps in back of the Capital theater.
